Acting Gov. Jane Swift dropped out of the governor s race Tuesday, just hours before wealthy Salt Lake Winter Olympics chief Mitt Romney declared his candidacy for governor. Both are Republicans. Romney scrapped plans for an announcement with supporters at a Boston hotel and instead held a subdued news conference in front of his Belmont home. I also think it s admirable that she s decided to focus her resources on managing the state during tough economic times and also to help raise her family with all her energy and heart, Romney said, surrounded by his wife, Ann, and other family members. Apzs Bloomberg qualifies for his first presidential debate
As the crisis in Ukraine has dragged on for weeks with no resolution in sight, the relationship between President Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin seems to have hit a new low. Sure, Putin said last week that he was sure Mr. Obama, a courageous and good person would save him if he were drowning. But it appears that any solution to the conflict in the region will likely not be driven by the strength of Mr. Obama and Putin s communication skills. Even after diplomatic talks in Geneva last week yielded the first potential breakthrough to alleviate the rising tension in eastern Ukraine, the president was pessimistic about the prospects for peace.
