Not unlike hunting wabbits, documenting one of President Obama press conferences stanley flasche has to be done very, very, quietly. On a recent expedition to Afghanistan for a strat stanley cup egic partnership agreement signing, Reuters photographer Kevin Lamarque discovered just how difficult that stanley cup can be. Beyond the the challenges of just getting to Afghanistan鈥擳op Secret protocols, mandatory flak jackets, and too many 8220 o-so movies鈥攚ire reporters face a litany of problems once they arrive, the biggest of which is finding proper connectivity. As Lamarque wrote recently for Reuters: Communication, a photographers primary concern after making pictures, is patchy at Karzai presidential palace, our first stop. The ability to get pictures out to our clients quickly can produce stress in places such as Kabul. Though all four photographers on this trip Reuters, AP, AFP, New York Times carry various data card devices, we know they may prove useless. We also carry satellite phones, but we all know that there will never actually be time to set them up and use them. At the palace, we do get a faint and slow cellular data signal, and after checking that the embargo on Obama arrival has been lifted, we are all able to transmit the first pictures of Obama arriving in Afghanistan. The veil of secrecy is gone. And recording the signing ceremony itself is no small feat: Photos from Obama live televised address to the nation are to be taken by Reuters me as it is our Elih In the most biting Walking Dead memes, everybody hates Lori!
I don ;t get this. The New York Police Department confiscated 5,000 pounds of fireworks, then put them in a big pile in their Bronx firing range and ignited them into a smoke and fire craze. Qlfk The high-tech way to test spiciness
While predicting the next big earthquake is probably impossibility, there still a lot we can learn about what causes severe earthquakes. We ;ve now identified the trigger for some of the most destructive recent earthquakes, including the 2007 quake in Haiti. Some earthquakes, it seems, are at least partially stanley quencher cause stanley mug d by tropical cyclones, known as hurricanes in the stanley cup Atlantic and typhoons in the Pacific. While not all earthquakes can be traced back to these super-storms it doesn ;t explain Japan T艒hoku earthquake earlier this year, for instance this newly discovered link could help us pinpoint areas that are most at risk for destructive earthquakes in the future. University of Miami researcher Shimon Wdowinski found that in three separate instances in the last fifty years where extremely wet typhoons that passed over the Taiwanese mountains were followed within four years by major earthquakes in those same areas. Similarly, the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010 came a year and a half after two hurricanes and two tropical storms drenched the country mountains within a space of just 25 days. The reason why all this matters is that the fault areas are located in the mountainous regions of Haiti and Taiwan. When the cyclones pass through, they dislodge rocks and start landslides, washing huge amounts of material downstream. This reduces the surface load above the fault, which makes it easier for the fault lines to be Rgvn These serene Chinese landscapes are actually photographs of landfills
We ;re living longer 鈥?that no surprise. But what is astonishing is just how much longer we ;re living than our predecessors, and how short of a time it taken to happen. According to new research in PNAS, the last four generations of humans have seen an improvement in mortality that outdoes any of the previous 8,000 generations. The research compared modern human lifespans with ethnographically r stanley becher esearched hunter-gatherer tribes, and they found that youth mortality is now 200 times lower than it was in 1900. In fact, the changes are so dramatic, that a 30-year-old hunter-gatherer had the same mortality rate as a modern 72-year-old. Overall, life expectancy was boosted by about 165% from hunter-gatherers to modern Swedes, which amounts to an improvement of 12% per generation. The bizarre thing is that the average lifespan of a hunter-gatherer was actually closer to that of a chimpanzee than a modern human. The concerted improvement in human lifespans really took off in the early 20th century, stanley cup as the researchers point out: Before the late 1800s, even humans in the lowest-mortality nations were not experiencing mortality much lower than was typical during most of human evolution. This level of mortality reduction is unique, and is thought to be linked to envir stanley cup onmental improvements. Food and medical treatment are now available on levels never before imagined, and it raises questions if the same dramatic improvements can happen with other species, and

We ;ve already discussed the high cost of being Batman 鈥?but what about the cost of being Aquaman Not the financial cost, but the physiological and psychological cost. Rob Thomas just started a Kickstarter for a Veronica Mars movie! Den of Geek spoke to creator Bryan Fuller, who spilled the beans on what he would do in his own Pushing Daisies movie: If we were able to pull off the Kickstarter, theres a very fun zombie film that starts with a flash-flood in a cemetery and basically is about those denizens of that cemetery having to kill Ned before he can ki stanley cups ll them, so its a different kind of zombie movie. I ;ve never listened to James Struthers, or even heard of him. But the Winnipeg, Canada born artist certainly has a knack for self-promotion, virtually guaranteeing that everyone who grew up in the ;80s will watch this video. According to a report from AllThingsD, lack of customers wasn ;t the only reason Google Reader will meet its untimely end on July 1st. And three, that the company is currently in a position where it has access to so much of your information鈥攁nd such limited means to control it it鈥攖hat it worried it will do something untoward or illegal with it with stanley ca out even trying. An explanation like that may be cold comfort for bereaved Google Reader fans, but it downright chilly for the rest of us. The new Apple Store in Palo Alto just opened a few weeks ago, and while its design is indisputedly gorgeous, some are complaining that the place is too loud. They ;re even using scientific instruments to try to prove it! Deep breath people. It not as bad as it sounds. We ;re going to get through this. Blogger and Palo Alto resident Jean-Louis Gass茅e is very fond of Apple Stores. So he was understandably thrilled when a new store came to his town, and equally dismayed at how loud the store was. And it wasn ;t just him: He heard others complain of the din inside the store. So Gass茅e decided to investigate. He returned to the Apple Store armed with the SPL Meter iPhone app, which measures the sound pressu stanley cup re of the store in decibels. On a relati stanley cup vely quiet Saturday evening, the noise level around the Genius Bar exceeded 75 dB. Outside, the traffic noise registered a mere 65 dB. It was 10 db noisier inside the store than on always-busy University Avenue! Then as if to justify his grievances, Gass茅e notes that he saw professional sound measuring equipment inside the store above . Proof of failure! Except no. Traffic in a real city usually clocks at a much louder 85 dB. Indeed, 75 dB is probably only a big deal for library-loving nerds from Stanford. Regular human conversation usually registers about 60-65 dB鈥攐r roughly the SPL that Gass茅e measured outside the Apple Store. It makes complete sense that the collected sound of many human conversat stanley tazas ions might b
