All planets are vast clumps of dust and gas packed together by gravity. If there lots of material, a gas giant is the result. If there isn ;t much material, you g stanley ca et a rocky planet. At least, that what we thought. But now Seung-Hoon Cha and Sergei Nayakshin of the UK University of Leicester have come up with a rather intriguing complication for the longstanding core accretion model. In this current view, planet formation is a bottom-up process. Dust and gas clump together into disks around their star, and then they start smashing together into bigger and bigger pieces until stanley becher , eventually, the force of gravity is strong enough to pull all the material together into a planet. However, the researchers propose a new, top-down model that they call tidal downsizing. In this new theory, giant gas disks form far away from their star, further out than where most of the currently known planets are found. Over time, these disks would start to clump together into gigantic stanley cups planets as much as ten times as massive as Jupiter. During this clumping process, heavier dust particles would fall through the gas into the center of the forming planet, creating a rocky core. But here where tidal downsizing gets really interesting. The gas disk all around the newborn planet works to push the planet out of its orbit towards its star. Eventually, the planet gets close enough that the tremendous tidal force of the star starts ripping the gas right off the planet. We recently saw how James Cameron stanley quencher built the undersea set for the 1987 filming of The Abyss at the unfinished Cherokee Nuclear Plant outside of Gaffney, South Carolina. https://gizmodo/watch-how-the-abyss-was-...at-an-aban stanley en mexico d botella stanley oned-nuclear-5840307 Cameron crew constructed one of the largest underwater film stages ever built and 鈥?because of the sheer cost of disassembling it 鈥?were forced to abandon it to the elements for 20 years. Even though the seven-million-gallon, forty-foot-deep set was eventually demolished in 2007, we ;re lucky to have photographic evidence of this cinematic monolith. A tipster has generously provided us with dozens of pictures from urban exploration missions to The Abyss ; rusting Deepcore seabase. These shots were taken from 2003-2004. And just for kicks, here how the place looked in 1994. I imagine if you slept there at night, the ethereal visage of Ed Harris warbled a sweet siren song, tempting you to take a dip in the stagnant water. James CameronMovies
