Ron Joyce, the entrepreneurial legend who rode a wave of coffee and doughnuts from a police beat to Billionaire Street, has died at the age of 88.Joyce was the mastermind behind Tim Hortons, taking the business from a humble first store on Ottawa Street North in Hamilton in 1964 to an empire of 1,000 franchises by the mid-1990s that changed fast food history.After he sold the chain to Wendy International Inc. in 1996, he focused attention on philanthropy in health care, education and community betterment.
